Section 01

Event Overview and Format

PROJECT PBE Set 17 is a competitive Teamfight Tactics event designed to bring together top players from around the world to compete on the PBE server. The event uses a custom Discord bot for ladder tracking and tournament management. Rankings are determined using a regional LP multiplier calculator that cross-references peak rank across different servers into a unified “True LP” score, allowing fair comparison between regions.

The formula behind the True LP calculator will be published publicly when sign-ups close. The calculator is still being refined ahead of the event based on feedback from top players across all regions.

Data Partnership

For Set 17, PROJECT PBE is working with DataTFT to produce statistics during the event. These stats will be made available to the wider TFT community and will provide insights into meta trends, compositions, and player performance throughout the ladder phase.

Section 02

Circuit Structure and Eligibility

Circuits

PROJECT PBE Set 17 operates across three circuits. Placement into each circuit is determined by peak regional rank up until February 15th, 2026, cross-referenced using the True LP calculator.

  • Tier 1 – The top 350 players by True LP who sign up. Worlds attendees and Tier 1 pros from Sets 15 and 16 are automatically qualified but must still submit a sign-up form. Top 25 at end of ladder advance to the MAJOR.
  • Tier 2 – The next 400 players by True LP. Same ladder format as Tier 1. No separate prize pool starting Set 17.
  • Open – Any remaining registered players who reached Masters or above before the snapshot date but did not qualify for Tier 1 or Tier 2. Participation may be capped if infrastructure cannot support the number of sign-ups. If capped, spots are awarded top-down by True LP.
Promotion and Demotion

A promotion and demotion system is active starting Set 17. Players who achieve a qualifying BLP threshold in their current circuit will start the following set in the next circuit up. This applies across all three circuits. The thresholds will be communicated before the end of the ladder phase.

Placement in the circuit is reflected via a role change in the official PROJECT PBE Discord after registration is confirmed.

Account Requirements

All players must have a valid PBE account in good standing. Your PBE account name must be composed of purely alphanumeric characters only due to bot limitations. Players from outside of NA may participate but are responsible for obtaining and maintaining their own PBE access. PROJECT PBE is not responsible for any PBE access issues that prevent participation.

Section 03

The Ladder Phase

The ladder phase runs from April 6th to April 10th, 2026. Exact start and end times will be announced in the PROJECT PBE Discord. All circuits compete simultaneously during this window.

Players use the PROJECT PBE Discord bot to compete for Beta LP (BLP). Scores are updated every 20 minutes and can be viewed through leaderboard channels on mentr.gg or via bot commands in the Discord. Queue times are generally expected to be under 10 minutes, though this is not guaranteed.

Bot Maintenance

The bot undergoes maintenance once per day, aligned with the PBE’s daily patch cycle. Any maintenance windows will be announced in #bot-updates. If the bot is updated while you are in queue, you will need to rejoin the queue after the reset.

Tracker Requirement

All players who stream are required to have the PROJECT PBE tracker active during their streams. The tracker is an OBS browser source provided by the organizers. If a sponsor places their branding on the tracker and a player has a legal conflict of interest with that brand due to their organization or existing contracts, a brandless tracker with PROJECT PBE branding will be provided instead. If no sponsor is secured, all players will receive a brandless tracker.

Bugs and Exploits

Because the PBE is a beta environment, bugs are expected. The distinction is as follows, as per Mortdog: “Anything you could do by accident is a bug, but anything you can do on purpose is an exploit.” Bugs are allowed. Exploits are banned.

If you observe a player using an exploit, report it in #help-desk with proof. Confirmed exploit usage will result in immediate disqualification and an indefinite ban from all future events hosted by Kai, unless a different penalty is specified in #known-bugs for a particular exploit.

Section 04

Decay System

The decay system applies to Tier 1 only. At the end of each day, if a player has not played enough games to offset the decay, their BLP will be reduced based on their current ladder position. Decay operates differently from the live server decay system.

Daily Decay Rates
Ladder Position BLP Decay Per Day
Ranks 1 through 830 BLP
Ranks 9 through 1625 BLP
Ranks 17 through 2418 BLP
Ranks 25 through 3210 BLP
How to Offset Decay

Decay is offset by playing games. The total absolute value of BLP gained or lost across all games in a day must equal or exceed your decay threshold. It does not matter whether the BLP was gained or lost – only the total movement counts.

For example, if you are ranked 5th, your daily decay is 30 BLP. The following combinations would all offset decay:

  • Playing 1 game and placing 2nd (+30 BLP): |30| = 30
  • Playing 2 games and placing 5th then 3rd (-10 BLP, +20 BLP): |-10| + |20| = 30
  • Playing 3 games and placing 4th, 4th, 5th (+10, +10, -10 BLP): |10| + |10| + |-10| = 30
  • Playing 1 game and placing 8th (-40 BLP): |-40| = 40, which exceeds 30 and also offsets decay
Note: Decay is non-negotiable. No BLP will be reinstated due to missed gameplay, technical issues, or personal circumstances. Players are encouraged to play as many games as needed to maximize their BLP and ensure decay is offset.
Section 05

Tiebreakers

In the event of a tied BLP score at the end of the ladder phase, the following tiebreaker order applies:

  • Most top 4 finishes
  • Most 1st place finishes
  • Fewest 8th place finishes
  • Most top 2 finishes
  • Most top 3 finishes
  • Placement in the last game played
Section 06

The MAJOR

The top 25 Tier 1 players at the end of the ladder phase advance to the PROJECT PBE MAJOR, a two-day tournament taking place April 11th and 12th, 2026. The first game starts at 10:00 AM EST each day. A two-step verification process is in place to manage lobby entry. If you have any issues joining a lobby, ping an admin immediately.

Day 1 Format

Day 1 is a multi-game format with reseeding after each game. The top 25 players compete across multiple lobbies. After Game 4, the bottom players are cut and the remaining top 8 advance to Day 2. Bonus points are awarded based on ladder placement entering Day 2:

  • 1st place: Bye for Day 2 (skips Day 1)
  • 2nd through 9th place: +2 bonus points entering Day 1
  • 10th through 17th place: +1 bonus point entering Day 1
Day 2 Format – Checkmate

Day 2 uses a Checkmate format. Players accumulate points across games. A player reaches “check” once they accumulate 20 points. From that point, the player must finish 1st in a subsequent game to “checkmate” and claim the championship. Players who have not reached check continue to accumulate points until they do. The event continues until one player achieves checkmate.

Prizing

A prize pool is awarded to the top finishers of the MAJOR. The total prize amount for Set 17 is yet to be finalized and will be announced before the event. Set 16’s Tier 1 prize pool was $3,000 USD. All prizes are distributed exclusively via PayPal. Winners must provide a valid PayPal address within 7 days of the MAJOR. Players are responsible for any applicable taxes in their jurisdiction.

Bot Manual

An updated video manual for Set 17 will be provided before the event begins. All participants are expected to review it to ensure familiarity with bot commands, lobby creation, and result submission.

Section 07

Win-Trading Policy

Win-trading is strictly prohibited in PROJECT PBE. For the purposes of this event, win-trading is defined as any deliberate action that significantly weakens a player’s own position in order to benefit another player, with the intent of influencing standings or tournament advancement. All players are expected to play in a manner that maximizes their own placement at all times.

A play will only be considered win-trading if substantial evidence has been brought forward. Substantial evidence requires at least 3 of the following 5 conditions to be met. Condition 3 is mandatory and must always be satisfied. If Condition 5 is met, the player is automatically subjected to penalties regardless of the other conditions.

Substantial Evidence Criteria
Condition 1
Impact on Tournament Progression
The play in question resulted in another player securing a crucial advancement in the tournament, such as making it to Day 2 or qualifying for the final lobby.
Condition 2
Community Suspicion and Reviewability
At least two competitors must independently report a strong suspicion of win-trading. The play must be supported by video evidence from any perspective: a player’s own VOD, a third-party spectator, or a tournament stream. Match history alone is not sufficient evidence. Players are strongly encouraged to stream and record their games for transparency.
Condition 3 – Mandatory
Independent Panel Review
A panel of seven non-participating, high-level TFT players will review the play. The panel consists of 2 players from AMER, 2 from EMEA, 2 from APAC, and Kai as the seventh member. To qualify for the panel, a player must have reached Challenger at least once in the past three sets. A formal panel is only assembled if a serious allegation is made within the required timeframe. The review process will be made public. A majority vote of at least 4 out of 7 is required for this condition to be fulfilled.
Condition 4
Deviation from Standard of Play
The play must be deemed below the expected standard of competitive play for PROJECT PBE. This determination is made by Kai based on his experience as a former Challenger player.
Condition 5 – Automatic Penalty
Open Admittance to Win-Trading
If a player openly admits to win-trading via text or video evidence, they are automatically subjected to penalties and immediate disqualification. The conditions above are no longer required.
Section 08

General Rules and Conduct

All participants are expected to maintain a high standard of sportsmanship and compete with integrity and respect throughout the event. The following rules apply to all circuits for the duration of PROJECT PBE Set 17.

  • R1All games are played on the PBE server based in NA. Players from outside NA may participate but must have a valid PBE account. Your PBE account name must contain only alphanumeric characters due to bot limitations.
  • R2The bot undergoes daily maintenance aligned with the PBE patch cycle. Maintenance windows are announced in #bot-updates. If you are in queue when the bot resets, you must rejoin the queue.
  • R3Failure to consistently fulfill lobby leader responsibilities – such as repeated failure to create or invite players to lobbies – may result in expulsion from this event and future PROJECT PBE events. Multiple complaints must be raised before action is taken, but recurring issues will result in consequences at the discretion of Kai and the admin team.
  • R4All streaming players must have the PROJECT PBE tracker active during their streams. See Section 3 for tracker requirements and exceptions.
  • R5Bugs are allowed. Exploits are banned. If you observe an exploit being used, report it in #help-desk with proof. Confirmed exploit use results in immediate disqualification and an indefinite ban from all future events hosted by Kai, unless a different penalty is posted in #known-bugs.
  • R6Unsportsmanlike conduct is prohibited. This includes intentionally targeting another player out of spite or personal grievance, making game decisions that do not serve your own placement solely to harm another player’s result, and behaviors that create a hostile or toxic environment in lobbies, stream chat, or Discord. All in-game decisions must be justifiable through the lens of optimizing your own tournament outcome.
  • R7A two-step verification system gives players 10 minutes to join a lobby after being queued. If you encounter issues, ping an admin in your circuit’s dedicated #help-desk channel immediately.
